Lin Zhaohua, the founder of Chinese contemporary theatre meets the father of modern drama in "The Master Builder", an intense, psychological drama which is considered to be Henrik Ibsen’s most autobiographical work.
25/01/2008 :: Lin Zhaohua’s Drama Studio is staging their ground-breaking production of the Henrik Ibsen classic ”The Master Builder” at Beijing Chang’An Theatre on 20 to 24 February 2008. Lin Zhaohua is widely reckognized as China's most accomplished and prominent theatre director, and this production of “The Master Builder” was the highlight of the Ibsen Year 2006 in China. Famous actor Pu Cunxin plays the leading character Halvard Solness with multi award-winning actress Tao Hong as Hilde Wangel. The play will also be staged in Hong Kong as part of the Hong Kong Arts Festival on 7,8 and 9 March.
The Master Builder is the story of Halvard Solness, an aging architect reflecting on his life achievements, his diminishing creative powers and the desire for success that has always consumed him. In Lin's compelling production, audiences get a rare chance to see the great work on stage, and catch a glimpse of the inner-Ibsen, the man behind the art.
